In Sept 1894 his orchard was doing well, some trees being 7 or 8 years old, and having had to have water hauled from the river until the last few years when the [[Miles City Irrigating and Ditch Company|irrigation ditch began supplying water]] the previous year. His residence is near the foothills, surrounded by a grove of trees, a grassy yard, orchard in the back. Apples and plums, mostly transplanted native species. Also some grapes, currant, gooseberry and raspberry bushes. Adjoining garden has tomatoes and melons. His brother [[E. C. Haynes]] lives near by.
